Grading Policies

Explanation of Grades

 

Kindergarten
Kindergarten students will receive report cards at the end of each nine-week grading period.

Reading and Writing Key Scale
• A check indicates your child’s current level of achievement.
• A box indicates the expected level of achievement by the end of kindergarten.

Kindergarten and Grade 1, 2 and Multi-Age
These students will receive report cards at the end of each nine-week grading period.

Grade 3, 4, and 5
Report cards for grade 3 will be sent home the week following each nine-week’s grading period. The report card should be signed by a parent and returned the following day. Letter and number grades will appear on the report card for grade 3. In Grade 3, explanation grades S (satisfactory) and U (unsatisfactory) will be used in Social Studies, Science and handwriting.  In Grades 4 and 5, explanation grades S (satisfactory), and U (unsatisfactory) will be used in Handwriting.

Honor Rolls shall be determined at the end of each nine-week grading period
The Madison County School District recognizes two types of honor rolls in Grades 3 – 5:
• 1. The “A, B” honor roll shall be composed of all students with grades no lower than 85/B.
• 2. The “All A” honor roll shall be composed of all students with grades no lower than 94/A. .

Parents are encouraged to review their child’s report card and contact the school if a conference is needed.
 
Special Recognition

Each semester we reward children for their awesome grades, excellent attendance, and other achievements. Many local businesses in the area have participated in giving certificates to be used for recognition. In no particular order, these businesses have included the following:
